14 meals per week (breakfast and dinner). Students typically enjoy a cold breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, etc.) at the time of their choosing. Dinner is usually a hot meal and eaten together with the host family.

Students enjoy the ELS/San Jose homestay program because our on-staff Homestay Coordinator hand-selects every family. The host families are kind, involved, and truly care about students. Homestay families provide breakfast and dinner daily, and make an effort to spend time with students so that students get an immersive and personal experience. Students generally take public transportation (bus and/or light rail) to and from school and the average commute time is 45 minutes. Students are generally placed in Single Rooms, however in busy seasons, students may be placed in Double Rooms.

We are thrilled to announce that, beginning Session 12B, November 6, 2016, off-campus student housing for ELS/San Jose students will be located at The Hacker Home near the campus of International Technological University! The Hacker Home is in the perfect location near to the light rail and bus systems and the amenities of downtown San Jose, including restaurants, shops, museums, gym, and entertainment. The neighborhood is peaceful and convenient, offering the safety and quiet of a residential area with all of the ease and excitement of a nearby downtown.
The Hacker Home provides shared living in a spacious, thoughtfully furnished home that offers Single, Double, and Quad rooms to ELS students as well as to interns working in area tech companies such as Google, Facebook, and Apple. In the home, students will enjoy a roomy kitchen, stocked with pots, pans, and cooking essentials, and a living space with television and books, games, and instruments. There is plenty of outdoor space, complete with a grill. The furnished home also includes a washer and dryer, all utilities, and high-speed internet. In addition, utilities, linens, and a weekly cleaning service are included in the price.
The Hacker Home staff organizes monthly events for all residents such as BBQ's, trips, and holiday parties. These events are all free and are a great way to build community! Since the home is shared with tech interns, an emphasis is placed on connectivity and efficiency. The home offers docking stations, high-speed internet, and quiet study areas. ELS students will have the opportunity to meet and network with other international students and interns, and to learn more about the tech world of the Silicon Valley!
